VIÑEDOS DE YASO
This Designation of Origin comprises 6,000ha of vineyards. The history of winemaking in this area goes back over 2,000 years. It is one of the international benchmark regions in terms of the production of fine wines that enjoy global prestige for their fruit and aromatic intensity, as well as delicacy. The climate is continental with a slight Atlantic influence and there is a very marked temperature difference between night and day. The wines are concentrated, deep in colour. They are very intense in aromas and retain a level of acidity that gives them an excellent potential for ageing. The average rainfall is approximately 350 litres a year, which corresponds to a very dry climate. Long, cold winters (as low as –10ºC), and short summers with high temperatures that can reach as high as 40ºC. The soil is stony in many areas, with a poor, sandy surface and a clay base that grants it some capacity to retain water.
