Viñas del Jaro
D.O. Ribera del Duero
Comprising 23,000 ha of vineyards, the Ribera del Duero extends across the provinces of Valladolid, Burgos and a small part of Soria. It is the birthplace of some of the most significant red wines in Spain. At an altitude between 720 and 1,100 metres, nature and the passage of time have generated a soil of exceptional characteristics. Formed by layers of loamy or clayey sands, with alternate strata of limestone and outcrops of chalk, it is where vines conceived to give the very best fruit take root.
After many years of work and a search for the most distinctive estates, we found the perfect location in 1997. Situated on the right bank of the Duero River, in the town of Pesquera de Duero, specifically in the 65ha “Finca el Quiñón”, it features a small stand of centuries-old holm oaks, which is known as “JARO”, after which our winery, VIÑAS DEL JARO, is named. This estate is home to an old, forgotten vineyard known as Pago de Chafandín after a 18th century outlaw of the Valladolid area, who sometimes sheltered in the highest parts of our estate.
