Bodegas y Viñedos de Cal Grau
D.O. Q. Priorat
The Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin is a small, mountainous area located in the province of Tarragona. It is delimited to the north by the Sierra de Montsant massif, to the west by the Sierra de la Figuera, to the east, the Sierra de Molló and to the south, the land opens up, following the course of the Siurana River downstream towards the Ebro. The Siurana River and its tributaries form the main geographic arteries of the area. They have led to a series of valleys and small plateaus, together with the sinuous geology of the highlands and mountain ranges.
With just 1,900 ha of vineyards, it is one of the most complex areas of Cataluña and Spain for the production of red wines. Surrounded by the Montsant and Terra Alta Designations of Origin, the vineyards in the centre are hemmed in, with no possibilities of growth. An extreme climate, autochthonous varieties, terraces and the exceptional minerality of its soils, form part of the winemaking variables that we find here and are the four pillars on which this project is built.
